Pat and his wife Dorothy have been married 43 years. Dorothy is a recently retired pediatric nurse.  Pat served
in the Department of Corrections working directly with offenders, their employers, victims, and the courts. Pat
and Dorothy have two married sons with young children living in the Evergreen School District.

One of the sons with his wife and 2 and 4 year old boys have been staying with Pat and Dorothy for over a year
and a half due to the recession.   He completed his masters in education degree in May at Concordia and has
accepted a teaching position at the Confederated Tribes (Cayuse, Walla Walla, & Umitila) in Pendelton.   The
extended family worked out better than all expected and will end with a move scheduled for early August.  We
know many of you are in  similar situations and hope the very best for all of you during these difficult  times.

Pat grew up in Seattle and Lakewood, Washington.  He became an Eagle Scout and member of the Order of
the Arrow.  He later participated in the Seattle Open Housing movement while an oceanography student at the
U of W.      Pat enlisted into the Army Security Agency in 1965. He was assigned to Turkey, Taiwan, and NE
Thailand as a communications interceptor. Four years later Pat was honorably discharged as a staff
sergeant,E-6, with medals for Vietnam service.

Returning to college, Pat graduated from Tacoma Community College and later from Pacific Lutheran
University.  He did this while working nights as an attendant at the Fort Steilacoom mental hospital. After
graduation he transferred to Day Care Licensing and later Adult Service caseworker positions in DSHS.
As an adult services caseworker, Pat was assigned to Camp Murray for a time to help in the resettlement of
 Vietnamese refugees.

In 1976 the changing financial needs of a young family and an offered opportunity, resulted in a move to
Vancouver and qualification as a licensed water well driller. This was extremely interesting work and Pat met
a lot of good, positive people who were moving to country acreages. This work came to a sudden halt when
mortgage rates skyrocketed into the 15% range in 1979. Pat, unemployed with another child on the way,
returned to public service at Larch Corrections Center. He later transferred to Community Corrections
working in Clark and Skamania counties as a probation and parole officer. During this time he was a shop
steward and for a year the president of WFSE Local 313. He with a new slate of officers gave the local a much
needed change in direction and financial solvency. Pat is a member of the Retired Public Employees Council,
Coastal Conservation Association and the Sierra Club. He is currently active in the Washington Trails
Association and doing trail work on the Beacon Rock State Park Hardy Ridge Connector and Cape Horn trails.

Pat was elected for a four year term on City Council in 2007.  He serves on Southwest Clean Air Agency,
Council for the Homeless, Metro Policy Advisory Committee, and the City of Vancouver & Clark Regional
Wastewater District Oversight Committee.  He is Council alternate on the CTRAN Board of Directors.
